PHILANTHROPY IN HIGHER EDUCATION AND RESPONSIBLE SOCIAL GIVING: WHEN GIVING IS A REWARD

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nayhan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, and initiated as a joint endeavor of the ULC , this conference on "Philanthropy in Higher Education" established itself as the critical forum for policy-makers, decision-makers, business leaders, and philanthropic foundations to present and exchange ideas about developing and channeling socially responsible philanthropy in the UAE. The ULC, comprising of Masdar Institute, Zayed University, UAE University, Khalifa University, and the American University of Sharjah, co-organized this high-profile conference along with Abu Dhabi University as a uniquely comprehensive springboard to enhance philanthropic events related to higher education. To this end, the presidents and CEOs of some of the major foundations in the country, such as the Emirates Foundation, and Al Jalila Foundation, among others, also participated. The conference also featured keynote panels comprising of the presidents of the main universities mentioned above, industry leaders involved in CSR, and those engaged in raising consciousness and awareness about philanthropic initiatives. H.E. Philippe Douste-Blazy, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of France, and currently the Under-Secretary-General of United Nations, served as Keynote Speaker at this conference. Mr. Jack Lang, Former Minister of Culture of France, and currently the President of Arab World Institute, inaugurated the conference along with H.E. US Ambassador Michael Corbin.
